Drawing Now at Albertina Wien provides an up-to-date and in depth survey of the media of drawing, painting and illustration in contemporary art. It showcases the viewpoints of around thirtyfive international artists who collectively represent contemporary drawing and who, individually, are taking it in a direction of their own.
Drawing Now sheds light on the diversity of issues that artists articulate with the aid of their chosen medium and it tells the story of how exciting drawing in all its forms can be: exciting dimensions, unexpected manifestations, surprising materiality and a broad variety of narratives.
The exhibition also aims to push the limits of what drawing is usually associated with directing to multidisciplinary approaces and use of a variety of media. Also the notion of encompassing a wider range of artistic traditions and connecting drawing to other academic spheres is one of the paths to follow within this exhibition. Drawing and illustration are natural partners when it comes to melding in subject matters like architecture, literature, politics, theater, film and technology.
