Attention is rising for Art Basel’s presentation of its 46th edition featuring around 280 renowned galleries from just over 30 countries. With premium art fairs getting ever more competitive on the global scale Art Basel’s program is going to impress with top quality artwork ranging from modern to contemporary opening to the public on Thursday, June 18 and running through Sunday, June 21, 2015. Invitation only previews are held two days ahead, on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 16 and 17.
As in previous years Art Basel’s concept relies on various sectors – each of them focusing on a specific aspect. Main Sector covers gallery presentations in the classic sense – with a broad range of high quality painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, photography, video and editioned works.
Alongside these platforms there is also Parcours, a series of site-specific sculptures, interventions and performances by renowned international artists and emerging talents and Talks, a program in Hall 1’s auditorium offering audiences access to first-hand discussions and panels on the international art world.
Unlimited is Art Basel’s unique platform for projects that go beyond the limitations of the art fair booth as we know it. With popularity unbroken it’s curated in its fourth year by Gianni Jetzer showing around 70 works ranging from large-scale sculptures and paintings to video projections, installations and performances.
Feature Sector spotlights galleries with curatorial projects this year with a focus on more established artists like David Hammons at Salon 94, Nancy Holt at Parra & Romero, John Cage at James Cohan Gallery, Andrea Bowers at Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects. Solo presentations are to be found in the Statements Sector offering visitors and collectors a chance to discover work of emerging artists and young galleries. This year is welcoming eight newcomers to Statements: Marcelle Alix, James Fuentes, Grey Noise, Hannah Hoffman Gallery, JTT, Platform China, Galerie Gregor Staiger and Wallspace.
